The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped-up competition on Saturday afternoon in a dual meet against Oberlin College at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
The men and women combined to turn in 25 first-place finishes throughout the meet.
For the women, sophomore Cecelia Zielke claimed the title in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 37:10.52. Other first place finishes in the running events for the women came from senior Julie Hines in the 200-meter dash (26.52), first-year Elise Moore in the 400-meter run (1:01.92), first-year Grace Jackson in the 800-meter run (2:26.55), junior Susanna Henry in the 1,500-meter run (4:47.49), sophomore Mia Kilroy in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.72) and first-year Sierra Williams in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:57.76).
In the field events for the women, sophomore Shelby Cooper claimed first in the pole vault with a mark of 2.89 meters, while first-year Emily Hopkins placed first in the triple jump with a distance of 11.21 meters. Senior Emma Hammelef won the hammer throw with a mark of 42.49 meters and first-year Adrienne Wachtman won the javelin with a toss of 36.36 meters.
In addition, Hines, Hopkins and Moore also teamed with first Anna Zinsser in the 4x100-meter relay to place first in the event with a time of 50.38. Zinsser and Kilroy then teamed with junior Grace Bentley and sophomore Melissa Phung in the 4x400-meter relay to win the event with a time of 4:19.75.
The CWRU men were led by sophomore Ben Pinkowski, as he claimed the title in the high jump (1.90m), the long jump (6.21m) and the javelin (43.85m). Junior Ben Brisman also won two individual events on Saturday as he placed first in the discus with a mark of 33.72 meters and placed first in the hammer throw with a toss of 43.37 meters.
Other first-place finishers for the Spartan men came from first-year Andrew Baierl in the 400-meter run (52.08), junior Logan Singer in the 800-meter run (1:55.80), junior Christopher Heermann in the 1,500-meter run (4:17.55), sophomore Jack Begley in the 5,000-meter run (14:49.53), senior Michael Klein in the 10,000-meter run (32:38.57), sophomore Pierce Boucher in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.21) and sophomore Robert St. Clair in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:09.25).
Case Western Reserve will now turn their focus towards qualification for the 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Spartans will return to action when the team heads to the Mount Union Last Chance Meet in Alliance, Ohio on Wednesday, May 19th.
