The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Wittenberg Quad Meet hosted by Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio on Saturday.
With seven first-place finishes at the meet, the Spartan men topped four teams in action with 89 points, finishing ahead of second-place Albion College (69). The women, who tallied eight first-place finishes, placed first out of four teams at the meet with 114.5 points. Albion finished second with 82.5 points.
Sophomore Ben Pinkowski led the Case Western Reserve men, claiming titles in the high jump and triple jump. He won the high jump with a mark of 1.85 meters and placed first in the triple jump with a mark of 12.52 meters.
Other individual first-place finishers for the Spartan men came from graduate student Jonathan Haling in the 800-meter run (1:55.05), junior Logan Singer in the 1,500-meter run (3:59.27), junior Juan Perez in the 100-meter dash (11.02), and sophomore Robert St. Clair in the 5,000-meter run (15:39.91).
In addition, the men's 4x400-meter relay team of Haling, Singer, Perez and first-year Sam Hubbard placed first in the event with a time of 3:41.19.
The Spartan women had seven different individuals claim first-place finishes on Saturday.
In the field events, sophomore Shelby Cooper claimed the title in the pole vault with a mark of 2.75 meters, while first-year Emily Hopkins won the triple jump with a distance of 10.46 meters and first-year Adrienne Wachtman placed first in the javelin with a toss of 33.65 meters.
On the track, junior Susanna Henry crossed the finish line in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:01.12 to place first in the event. Other first-place finishers for the Spartan women included first-year Anna Zinsser in the 400-meter dash (1:02.98), sophomore Mia Kilroy in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.61) and sophomore Cecelia Zielke in the 5,000-meter run (17:53.83).
In addition, the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Kilroy, Zinsser, junior Grace Bentley and first-year Elise Moore won the event with a time of 4:18.76.
Case Western Reserve will return to competition next weekend, when the teams welcome Oberlin College to Cleveland for a dual meet at DiSanto Field on Saturday, May 1st. Field events are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., while events on the track will start at 2:00 p.m.
