Box Score Powered by two goals from senior forward Jacob Hall, the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team defeated Brandeis University 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Gordon Field in Waltham, Massachusetts.
The Spartans improved to 6-3-1 overall, and 1-1-0 in the University Athletic Association. The Judges drop to 3-6-2 on the season, and 0-1-1 in the UAA.
The game was scoreless until the 26th minute of play, when sophomore midfielder Austin Zeleznik found Hall cutting across the middle of the box and then Hall struck the ball to the top left corner of the net for the score. The goal was Hall's sixth of the season, while the assist was Zeleznik's team-leading sixth of the season.
CWRU held the 1-0 lead all the way until the 89th minute of the second half when Hall connected for his second goal of the game and his team-best seventh of the season. Sophomore midfielder Caleb Tan sent a ball into the top of the box, and Hall came flying in to punch the ball into the back of the net. The assist was Tan's second of the season.
The Spartans withstood the Brandeis attack throughout the game. Sophomores Josh Cook, Jad Oglesby and Alex Lippiatt and first-year Sawyer Dockal were the starters on the backline, while junior goalkeeper Jackson Kallen recorded three saves. Kallen improved to 4-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the UAA.
CWRU outshot the Judges 15-9 in the contest, with a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. Hall and senior midfielder Sean Atwater led the team with three shots, and Oglesby and Zeleznik each had two shots.
Case Western Reserve will return to action next weekend when they continue UAA play with road matches on Friday, October 15th against Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia at 7:30 p.m. and a Sunday afternoon game at 1:30 p.m. against the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.
