Box Score The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 contest to the 11th-ranked New York University Violets on Saturday afternoon at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Spartans are now 5-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the University Athletic Association, while the Violets improved to 7-1-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the UAA.
New York opened the scoring in the 38th minute when Bryce Lexow received a cross from Arkan Tahsildaroglu and tapped it into the goal for his second goal of the season.
The Violets added to their lead in the second half when Nathan Bennet received a ball from Louis Meeks and found the back of the net at the 50:55 mark. NYU capped off the scoring in the 58th minute when Bennet launched a shot from the far-right side of the box that found the upper left corner of the net for the goal. The goal was Bennet's second of the game and fifth on the season.
New York held the advantage in shots (19-10) and the advantage in corner kicks (5-2).
First-year forward Brandon Kim led CWRU with three shots, all on goal. Sophomore midfielder Austin Zeleznik added two shots, while five other Spartans notched a shot during the contest.
In net, junior goalkeeper Jackson Kallen made two saves to run his season total to six.
Case Western Reserve will return to action next weekend when they continue UAA play as they travel to Waltham, Massachusetts to face Brandeis University on Saturday, October 9th. The match is slated to start at 1:30 p.m.
