Box Score

The eighth-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team continued conference play on Sunday afternoon by battling the University Rochester to a double-overtime scoreless tie at Edwin Fauver Stadium in Rochester, New York.

With the tie, the Spartans moved to 11-1-1 overall, including a 2-1-1 mark in the University Athletic Association, while Rochester now stands at 5-3-4, 0-1-3 in the conference.

The shutout was the eighth this season by the Spartans' defense, as the backline held the Yellowjackets to just two shots on goals, and 10 shots during the game. It was also the sixth shutout of the year for Case Western Reserve sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Storti, who made two saves during the contest to lower her season goals-against average to 0.56.

After Rochester held a 9-5 edge in shots during the first two half's, two of the best chances of the day for CWRU came early in the second overtime period as senior midfielder Anika Washburn took shots at the 102nd minute and 105th minute that went high of the net. Those were two of seven shots on the day for the Spartans, including one each on goal from Washburn and junior forward Aniya Hartzler.

Storti would make two saves  in the second half to help preserve the tie. In the 56th minute, Cesca Sheppard fired a shot low left that the Spartans' keeper was able to save. In the 72nd minute, Storti was able to secure a shot from Sarah Martin.

The Spartans' backline held strong in overtime, allowing just one shot from the Yellowjakcets to keep the contest scoreless through the two extra periods.

Case Western Reserve will be back in action on Saturday, October 23rd, when the Spartans travel to Delaware, Ohio for a non-conference match against Ohio Wesleyan University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
