Spartan Men Finish First; Women Place Second at Bob Shannon Invitational

The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams turned in strong performances at the Bob Shannon Invitational, hosted by Denison University in Granville, Ohio on Saturday.

The men scored 129.5 points to finish first out of 10 teams at the meet. Ohio Wesleyan finished second with 121 points, while Wittenberg placed third with 90 points. In the women's portion of the meet, Case Western Reserve placed second with 96 points. Ohio Wesleyan won the competition with 165 points, while Wittenberg placed third with 81 points.

The Spartan men tallied four first-place finishes, and four second-place finishes throughout the meet. Junior Trey Razanauskas placed first in both the 5,000-meter run and the mile run, as he won the 5,000M with a time of 15:36.17 and then took first in the Mile with a time of 4:24.75. Junior Jordan Butler claimed the title in the triple jump with a mark of 12.73 meters, while sophomore Juan Perez finished first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.05.

Sophomore Bryden Moxley finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.62 and Perez placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.00. Senior Andrew Green added a second-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:57.35, while sophomore Alex Loeper (16:04.02) and senior Tim Andrews (16:05.39) finished third and fourth, respectively. First-year Jack Begley earned a second-place finish in the mile-run with a time of 4:27.25, and first-year Liam O'Reilly finished right after him in third with a time of 4:34.68.

Other top finishers for the Spartan men included Butler in the long jump (third, 6.28m), senior Jonathan Haling in the 800-meter run (third, 2:00.27), junior Dmytro Blundell in the 3,000-meter run (third, 9:13.83), junior Musa Hakim Jr. in the 60-meter dash (fourth, 7.21) and junior Luke Traverso in the pole vault (fifth, 3.80m).

The Spartan women were led by senior Bailey Flint who placed in the top-five in three separate events on Saturday. Flint earned a second-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 10.05 meters, placed third in the long jump with a mark of 5.00 meters and finished fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.55 meters. In addition, junior Taylor Jackson placed in the top-five in two separate events, as she finished second in the weight throw (15.17m) and fifth in the shot put (11.33m).

Other top finishers for the Spartan women included senior Abbey Waltz in the pole vault (second, 3.35m), first-year Mia Vargo in the high jump (second, 1.60m), junior Kiera Olson in the 3,000-meter run (second, 10:50.44), junior Olivia Battistoni in the 5,000-meter run (fourth, 19:16.15), junior Madison Vargo in the 800-meter run (fourth, 2:28.08), sophomore Susanna Henry in the 3,000-meter run (fourth, 11:00.98), sophomore Maddy Nacci in the 5,000-meter run (fifth, 19:57.20), first-year Mia Kilroy in the 60-meter hurdles (fifth, 10.39) and junior Jasmine Floyd in the 60-meter dash (fifth, 8.37).

In addition, senior Dominic Oddo competed at the Wide Track Classic in Hillsdale, Michigan on Friday and Saturday. He finished third out of eight competitors in the men's heptathlon, as he totaled 4,513 points in the event. On the first day, Oddo earned a third-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.67 meters (736 points), placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 10.76 meters (531 points), tied for fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.70 meters (544 points) and finished sixth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.57 (690 points). He totaled 2,501 points after the first day of competition. On Saturday, Oddo placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.87 (775 points), finished fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.50 meters (482 points) and placed second in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:51.03 (755 points).

The Spartans track and field teams are back in action this Friday, February 14th as they travel to Berea, Ohio for the Mid-February Meet hosted by Baldwin Wallace University.
