Singer Breaks School Record at the Kent State Tune Up

Highlighting the Spartan performances on Saturday, sophomore Logan Singer set a new school record in the 1,000-meter run as the Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams finished competition at the Kent State Tune Up in Kent, Ohio.

Singer placed first in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:29.04, which breaks his previous school record of 2:32.43 set earlier this indoor season. In addition, first-year Parker Straight placed fourth in the event with a time of 2:34.02, while senior Jonathan Haling finished sixth with a time of 2:34.83.

Senior David Hall also earned a first-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:56.90. The Spartan men also earned a second-place, sixth-place and seventh-place finish at the meet, as senior Dominic Oddo finished second in the long jump (6.70m), senior Michael Hradesky placed sixth in the 800-meter run (1:56.29) and junior Eric Rachita earned a seventh place finish in the 3,000-meter run (8:55.76).

In addition, Haling earned a 10th-place finish in the 200-meter dash (22.66), sophomore Bryden Moxley placed 10th in the 800-meter run (1:57.86) and senior Tim Andrews finished 10th in the 3,000-meter run (9:00.77).

Sophomore Susanna Henry led the Spartan women on Saturday, as she placed first in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:02.58. Junior Grace Kemerer finished third in the event with a time of 19:10.47, while junior Olivia Battistoni placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:12.38.

First year-Mia Vargo tied for eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.55 meters, while first-year Melissa Phung earned an eighth place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.07. Senior Abbey Waltz added a 10th-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 3.27 meters.

The Spartans were also in action on Friday, with a group of throwers competing at the Rick Meindl Last Call Meet hosted by Capital University in Bexley, Ohio. The men finished sixth of seven teams with 31 points, while the women placed seventh out of seven teams with 16 points.

Senior Brian Holden led the men as he finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 14.16 meters. Graduate student Tyler Bushman added a third-place finish with a toss of 13.98 meters, while sophomore Ben Brisman placed fourth with a mark of 13.49 meters. In addition, senior Darius Inzar placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.18 meters.

For the women, junior Taylor Jackson earned a second-place finish in the weight throw (14.94m) and a fifth-place finish in the shot put (11.52m). Sophomore Eleanor Gaddy added a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 11.20 meters, and also claimed a seventh-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 13.53 meters.

Case Western Reserve will now prepare to travel to New York, New York for the 2020 University Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field Championships from February 29th through March 1st on the campus of New York University.
