The Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team lost on Friday night at Horsburgh Gymnasium to 13th-ranked Washington (Mo.) University, 88-66. With the loss, the Spartans fall to 8-5 on the season and 1-1 in the University Athletic Association. The Bears are 11-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

First-year forward Cole Frilling led the Spartans with 11 points, and sophomore guard Robert Faller added 10 points. Senior forward Michael Hollis led the team with seven rebounds, while sophomore forward Ryan Newton added eight points and collected five rebounds. Sophomore guard Conor Pederson scored nine points and first-year guard Jackson Lamb dropped in eight, career-best marks for each.

The Spartans registered four blocks to the Bears' one, and 11 different Spartan players scored in the contest.

The Bears started the game on a 6-0 run, though the Spartans tied the game at six with two three-pointers three minutes into the game. WashU opened a 20-point lead with under five minutes to go in the half, 37-17. At halftime, the Spartans trailed 47-23.

Two free throws from Faller capped an 8-2 Spartan run early in the second half, which cut the deficit to 21. With 12 minutes to go in the half, a Faller layup cut the deficit to 20, 57-27, the smallest of the second half for CWRU.

The Bears' Payden Webb led all scorers with 21 points.

The Spartans will look to rebound when they wrap up their UAA home stand on Sunday, January 19. The team hosts the University of Chicago at noon in Horsburgh Gymnasium.
