On the strength of two goals in the second half, the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team defeated Otterbein University 2-0 in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon at DiSanto Field. With the win, the Spartans improved to 5-3-2 on the season and the Cardinals dropped to 6-3-0.

After a scoreless first half, the Spartans broke the deadlock in the 58th minute. Senior Zachary Senft, running down the right side of the pitch, found junior Seldon Magruder open in the box. Magruder beat the goalkeeper and found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season. Senft earned his first assist of the season and 12th of his career.

Junior Nathan Ekberg doubled the Spartan advantage in the 71st minute. He received a cross on a free kick from junior Connor Weber and headed the ball past the Otterbein goalkeeper for the goal. It's Ekberg's first goal of the season and Weber's third assist of the season and 15th of his career. The 15 assists tie him for fifth most in program history.

In an action-packed match, the teams combined for 38 shots with Case Western Reserve outshooting Otterbein 23-15. The Spartans earned 11 corners, six more than the Cardinals did.

Freshman Jackson Kallen kept the clean sheet for CWRU, saving six shots in 90 minutes to tie his career high for saves.

Up next for the Spartans is a trip to New York City on Saturday, October 5 to face New York University (2-4-1) and start University Athletic Association play. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
