Spartan Women Drop Home Match to Emory, 2-0

Box Score

The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team dropped a home match 2-0 to Emory University on Friday evening at DiSanto Field. With the loss, the Spartans fall to 10-3-0 and 0-3-0 in the University Athletic Association, while the Eagles improve to 8-4-0 and 1-2-0 in the UAA.

Sophomore Anika Washburn had the Spartans' best chance to score in the first half. She received a cross in the center of the box in the 27th minute and kicked the ball toward the goalkeeper on the fly. However, the Emory keeper stopped the ball from going into the net.

The Eagles took an early lead in the third minute on a goal by senior Caroline Kolski. First-year Natalie Klar doubled the Emory advantage with a goal in the 31st minute on an assist from sophomore Arielle Williamson.

In the middle of the second half, Washburn set up another Case Western Reserve goal-scoring opportunity. She found first-year Johanna Dunkers on her own in the box. Only a sprawling save by the Emory goalkeeper kept the Spartans off the scoreboard. Dunkers and senior Kimberly Chen each had a team-leading three shots.

The Spartans will look to break through in UAA play when they host the #17 University of Rochester on Sunday, October 20. Kickoff at DiSanto Field is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
