Spartans Lose Tightly-Played Game to #8 Ohio Northern 1-0

Box Score

The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team battled eighth-ranked Ohio Northern University throughout the afternoon on Saturday, but a second-half goal by the Polar Bears proved to be the difference-maker in a 1-0 loss in Ada, Ohio.

The loss dropped the Spartans to 1-2-0 on the year, while Ohio Northern raised its record to 1-2-0.

After 68 scoreless minutes of play, Ohio Northern's Haley Moses broke the tie with the eventual game-winning goal.  After an initial shot was saved by CWRU sophomore keeper Lauren Metz, the resulting rebound was collected by Moses in front of the net and shot in for the goal.

Despite taking the loss, Metz made five saves in the game, matching her season high.  She lowered her season goals-against average to 1.06 with the effort.

Junior Ana Petropoulos and senior Melanie Kukura each registered two of the Spartans' seven total shots in the game, with one of Petropolis' landing on net.

The Spartans will return home to DiSanto Field this Wednesday, September 15th, for a 7:30 p.m. game against Hiram College.
