Box Score Junior midfielder Garrett Winter, sophomore defender Nathan Ekberg and junior forward Zachary Senft each struck for goals as the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team won in a 3-0 shutout against Oberlin College on Saturday night at Shults Field.
The Spartans improved to 3-1-0 on the season, earning their second shutout of 2018.
CWRU took a 1-0 lead in the 5th minute of play when Winter took a pass and dribbled through the Yeomen defense to score his team-leading fourth goal of the season.
The Spartans struck for their second goal almost exactly three minutes later when Ekberg headed a ball off of a corner kick and it deflected off of the Oberlin defender to give CWRU a 2-0 lead at the 8:49 mark. The Spartans would hold the 2-0 advantage throughout the remainder of the first half.
In the 78th minute, Senft scored after he dribbled down the end line and ripped a shot over the Oberlin keeper, pushing the Spartans lead to 3-0.
The CWRU defense kept Oberlin away from goal, holding the 10-6 advantage in shots on goal on Saturday night.
In net, freshman Charlie Fink went the distance and made six saves. He improved his overall record to 3-1-0 on campaign, while also notching his second shutout of the season.
Case Western Reserve will continue their road play, heading to University Heights, Ohio on Wednesday, September 12th, to face 24th-ranked John Carroll University. Kick-off at Don Shula Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m.
