Spartan Women Fall to #13 Chicago

The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team fell to the 13th-ranked University of Chicago 6-1 in their second to last home game of the season at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio on Sunday afternoon.

The loss dropped the Spartans to 6-7-0 overall, including a 0-4-0 ledger in the University Athletic Association play. Chicago raised its overall record to 12-1-1 with a 4-0-0 UAA mark.

The Maroons took lead in the sixth minute of play on Sunday, when Rachel Dias connected on her fourth goal of the season. Chicago would go on to add two more goals in first half to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

Chicago increased their lead in the second half when they scored three more goals within seven minutes of action.

The Spartans got on the board in 85th minute of action when junior midfielder Jennifer Markley launched a perfectly placed corner kick that curved into the bottom right corner of the goal. The score was her first of the 2018 campaign.

Sophomore Lauren Metz started in goal on Sunday, making 10 saves throughout her 65 minutes of action. Junior Lauren Unterborn played the final 25 minutes as she tallied five saves on the day. Markley led the Spartans with two shots, including one on goal.

Case Western Reserve will have a week break from conference play, returning to action next Friday, October 19th against Oberlin College. The non-conference game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
