Spartan Men Drop Hard-Fought Match at Kenyon, 1-0

A goal in the eighth minute was the difference as the Case Western University men's soccer fell by a 1-0 count to Kenyon College on Wednesday evening at Mavec Field in Gambier, Ohio.

The drop brings the Spartans to 4-4-1 overall this season, while the Lords improved to 6-2-2 on the season.

The only score of the match came when Kenyon's Oliver Wynn found the back of the net off an assist from Henry Myers at the 8:46 mark in the first half.

CWRU fought hard all throughout the match and their best shot of the match came in the 73rd minute of play when junior midfielder Paul Darmstadter attempted a penalty kick that was turned away by the Kenyon goalkeeper.

The Lords held the advantage in shots and corner kicks throughout the match.

Senior goalkeeper Calvin Boyle wound up with six saves for the Spartans, while Darmstadter led CWRU in shots and shots on goal.

Case Western Reserve will be back in action when they open conference play against University Athletic Association rival and 13th-ranked Brandeis University on Sunday, October 1st at 11:00 a.m. on DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
