Box Score The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team struggled to get on track early in its game on Saturday afternoon, and despite a late push for an equalizer, the Spartans fell to the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears 1-0 at DiSanto Field.
The loss was the third setback of the season for the Spartans, who dropped to 3-3-0 overall for the year, while Ohio Northern raised its record to 4-1-1.
The Polar Bears took the first half lead against the Spartans, scoring in the 17th minute of action on Sydney Leshnak's first goal of the season, unassisted.
CWRU fought hard all throughout the match, the Spartans took 10 of their 14 shots in the second half and came close to scoring on several occasions.
The Spartans finished the game with a 14-12 advantage in total shots, including a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Elle Zadina and freshman Emily Hauser each had a team-high four shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Unterborn went the distance and made four saves throughout the afternoon.
CWRU will return to action on Thursday, September 21st, taking on Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio. The game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.
