Box Score A goal in the 74th minute was the difference as the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team fell to University Athletic Association opponent New York University, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, New York.
The Spartans are now 5-7-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the UAA. With the win, the Violets improved to 6-3-2 overall and 1-1-0 in the conference.
CWRU struck quickly in the first half to take a 1-0 lead at 4:30 as sophomore forward Kimberly Chen beat a defender down the field and then went one-on-one with the NYU keeper and drilled a shot into the back of the net for her third score of the season. The Spartans held the 1-0 lead for the remainder of the half.
In the second, the Violets countered with a goal from Charlie Herbetz in the 50th minute to tie the match at 1-1. NYU's Tori Bianco then sent the game-winner into the back of the net with 15:19 remaining on the clock.
For the match, NYU outshot the Spartans and held the advantage in corner kicks. Chen and sophomore midfielder Ana Petropoulos each recorded one shot on goal for the match.
In net, sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Unterborn recorded one save.
CWRU will be back in action on Friday, October 13th, when the team heads to St. Louis, Missouri to play second-ranked Washington (Mo.) University for an 8:30 p.m. ET matchup with the Bears.
