Spartan Men Fall 1-0 to No. 13 Brandeis

Box Score

The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 conference battle against the 13th-ranked Brandeis University Judges on Sunday afternoon at DiSanto Field.

CWRU is now 4-5-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the University Athletic Association, while Brandeis advances to 7-2-0 and 1-0-0 in the UAA.

The Judges took an early lead in the contest on Patrick Flahive's fourth goal of the season in the fourth minute of play.  Flahive took a short pass from Max Breiter at the edge of the six-yard box, setting up a one-on-one with CWRU senior keeper Calvin Boyle, and scoring on a well-placed shot.

The Spartans' best opportunity of the half came on a long shot from sophomore Brian Woo, with 13:52 to play in the period, but the attempt was tipped over the bar by Brandeis' keeper Ben Woodhouse.

Brandeis held the 15-13 advantage in shots, but CWRU took an 11-9 advantage in corner kicks.

Boyle played all 90 minutes and made eight saves, while sophomore midfielder Zachary Senft and freshman midfielder Connor Weber led the Spartans in shots with a three apiece.

Case Western Reserve will return to action on Wednesday, October 4th when they welcome Oberlin College to DiSanto Field. The game is slated to start at 7:30 p.m.
