Spartan Women Fall Short in Season Finale to #24 Carnegie Mellon

The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team struggled to get on track early in its game on Saturday afternoon and fell to 24th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University 2-0.

With the loss, the Spartans ended the season with an overall record of 6-8-4, including a 0-5-2 mark in the UAA. Carnegie Mellon ended its regular season with an 11-5-2 record and a 5-2 conference record.

Carnegie Mellon registered the game-winning goal at the 41:48 mark, when freshman Sydney Webber found the back of the net via an assist from junior Morgan Kontor. The goal was Webber's first of the season.

The Tartans scored their second goal with less than two minutes left in the game when junior Sienna Stritter struck from 20 yards out for her third goal of the season.

Carnegie Mellon held the advantage in shots (11-3) and shots on goal (5-2).

Senior forward Pauline Van Dijck and freshman forward Kimberly Chen each recorded one shot on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Sarah Newcomb made three saves in the match for the Spartans.

Saturday's game concludes the 2016 campaign for Case Western Reserve.
