CWRU Women's Soccer Edges Wooster 1-0

Case Western Reserve University senior forward Jennifer Zajic's second goal of the season proved to be the difference maker on Saturday afternoon, as the Spartans defeated The College of Wooster 1-0 at Carl Dale Field.

Zajic's game-winning goal broke a scoreless tie at the 82:26 mark. After a cut-back cross from junior midfielder Neha Cheemalavagu, Zajic chipped the ball over the keeper to convert the shot for goal. Cheemalavagu was credited with her first assist of the season on the play.

With the win, CWRU improves to 6-5-4 on the season, while Wooster dropped to 5-8-4.

Despite the close score, the Spartans held large advantages in shots (21-9), shots on goal (11-4) and corner kicks (5-1) during the match. Case Western Reserve's defense notched its fourth shutout of the season, lowering its goal against average to 1.28 on the campaign.

Junior goalkeeper Sarah Newcomb earned the win in goal to improve to 6-5-4. She made four saves throughout the match.

The Spartans will be back in action next weekend, when the team hosts University Athletic Association games against the eighth-ranked University of Chicago on Friday, October 28th at 5:00 p.m. and the 11th-ranked Washington (Mo.) University on Sunday, October 30th at 11:00 a.m.
