KENT, Ohio - Yesterday's heavy snow in Northeast Ohio has caused Sunday's Case Western Reserve University baseball doubleheader versus Allegheny College (Pa.) to be cancelled.
The games, scheduled at Kent State University's Schoonover Stadium, were initially delayed this morning to 3:00 p.m. Unfortunately, it was decided that the field would not be ready to play by late this afternoon.
Mother Nature also forced a cancellation of yesterday's single game with Allegheny. Originally, the teams were to play a four-game series with two in Cleveland on Saturday and two in Meadville, Pennsylvania on Sunday. The series was reduced to three games and moved to Kent on Thursday as consistent inclement weather has caused poor field conditions at each school.
So far this season, CWRU's schedule has been decreased by seven games due to inclement weather, while several more have been re-scheduled.
The Spartans (14-4), ranked 21st in the nation by D3Baseball.com, are set to play at cross-town rival Baldwin Wallace University this Wednesday, April 2 at 4:00 p.m. in Berea. The teams are also scheduled to play at CWRU's Nobby's Ballpark on Thursday, April 3 at 4:00 p.m.
In total, the Spartans will play six games this week with five at home counting a pair of weekend doubleheaders.
