The Case Western Reserve University Department of Physical Education and Athletics was saddened to learn of the passing of local baseball coaching legend Dennis Woods, who died at the age of 82 on August 13.
Woods was the head baseball coach at CWRU from 1981 to 1985. His career also included time at Tri-C Community College before he became one of the winningest high school head coaches in Ohio history. Woods made stops at Glenville, St. Anselm's, Lake Catholic, and Brush High Schools, accumulating 801 career victories, the third-most in the history of the state of Ohio. He was inducted into the Cleveland South High School Hall of Fame, Glenville High School Hall of Fame, Lake County Captains Crow's Nest Hall of Fame, the Northeast Ohio Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and the OHSBCA Hall of Fame.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Divine Word Catholic Church, 8100 Eagle Rd., Kirtland, Ohio, 44094, with the burial to follow in Mentor Cemetery.
