Box Score ATLANTA – Playing its fourth nationally ranked opponent in five matches, the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team fell by a score of 3-0 at No. 21 Emory University on Sunday afternoon at the Woodruff P.E. Center.
The Spartans, now scoreless in four straight matches, drop to 8-6-3 overall and 1-4-1 in the University Athletic Association. The Eagles pick up their first league win in moving to 10-1-6, 1-1-4 UAA.
CWRU fell behind early and was never able to recover. At 14:36, Emory's Emily Feldman took a short pass from Karina Rodriguez and sent a shot off of the post and into the net for her sixth goal of 2014. The hosts controlled the pace for the duration of the half and added to their lead with just 32 seconds on the clock as Cristina Ramirez scored her fourth goal via an assist from Feldman.
The Spartans best shot at a score came in the 74th minute when a penalty kick from senior forward Jessie Sabers (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) was turned away by Emory goalkeeper Liz Arnold. The Eagles added their third goal at 89:45 on a header by Ramirez.
For the match, Emory led in shots (22-5) and corner kicks (7-2).
Senior goalkeeper Abbey Smith (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) made nine saves for the Spartans, one shy of her career high.
CWRU wraps up the season next Saturday, November 8 with a 7:00 p.m. match at the University of Rochester (N.Y.).
