Spartan Women See Unbeaten Streak Snapped in UAA Opener at Brandeis

Box Score

WALTHAM, Mass. – A goal in the 12th minute by Brandeis University (Mass.) senior Sapir Edalati was the difference as the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team dropped its University Athletic Association opener, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Gordon Field.

The loss snaps the Spartans' unbeaten streak at seven games and drops their overall record to 6-2-2.

The Judges improve to 10-1.

The marker by Edalati was headed off of a corner kick, finding the net just underneath the crossbar. The goal was the first surrendered by senior goalkeeper Abbey Smith (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) in 442:47. Smith, who made five saves in the contest, had last allowed a score on September 14 versus Centre College (Ky.).

Michelle Savuto and Alexis Grossman each played a half in net for Brandeis, with Savuto earning her sixth victory of the season.

Brandeis held a 12-4 advantage in shots and also attempted all nine corner kicks in the game.

The Spartans will return to action with a non-conference game at The College of Wooster on Tuesday, October 7 at 4:30 p.m. Conference play will resume when the Spartans welcome New York University to DiSanto Field on Saturday, October 11 at 1:30 p.m.
