Box Score GRANVILLE, Ohio – The No. 21 nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team fell in its 2014 non-conference finale by a score of 1-0 at Denison University on Saturday evening at Barclay Thomsen Field.
With the loss, the Spartans drop to 8-4-3 for the season. All four of their defeats have come via shutout.
The contest was deadlocked at halftime with CWRU owning a 7-2 advantage in shots. Following the break, momentum shifted as the Big Red (11-5) struck in the 50th minute on a goal by Andrea Witte. The marker was Witte's sixth of the season.
Jenny Herold made five saves to earn the victory for Denison, while CWRU senior goalkeeper Abbey Smith (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) stopped two shots in the loss.
For the game, Denison led in shots, 14-12, and corner kicks, 4-2. Sophomore forward Alexa Williams (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) led the Spartans with three shot attempts.
The Spartans will conclude the regular season with three straight conference road matches beginning Friday, October 31 at No. 4 Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.). Kickoff against the Tartans is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
