ATLANTA – The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team ended a University Athletic Association road weekend with a 76-52 loss at No. 8/9 nationally ranked Emory University on Sunday afternoon at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.

The Spartans (7-7, 1-2 UAA) were led in the scoring column by sophomore post Laura Mummey (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) with 11 points. Junior forward Berit Eppard (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) and junior wing Brooke Orcutt (Morrison, Colo./Dakota Ridge) each scored eight, while Eppard matched a career best with 14 rebounds.

The Eagles (14-0, 3-0) got five three-pointers and a game-high 26 points from Selena Castillo.

Mummey scored the game's opening basket before Emory embarked on a 16-2 run over the next five minutes. The hosts built their lead to 18, 48-30, at halftime.

In the second, Mummey completed an "old-fashioned" three-point play to start an 8-1 Spartan run that lasted until the 10:33 mark. That run included two more points for Mummey and a three-point play by senior guard Julie Mooney (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome), bringing the score to 53-40. Case's defense was strong in the first 10 minutes of the second half, as it allowed just five points over that stretch with blocks by Eppard and Mooney. However, the Spartans would get no closer than that 13-point deficit.

The Spartans return to action on Friday, January 24 versus Washington University in St. Louis at 6:00 p.m. at Horsburgh Gymnasium. That contest will open a four-game UAA homestand.
