Box Score CLEVELAND – Junior forward Jessie Sabers (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) scored her third and fourth goals of the season to lead the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team to a 4-0 shut out against John Carroll University on Sunday afternoon at Case Field.
The Spartans (5-4) have won two-straight matches and will aim to continue the streak this Tuesday, October 1 at Ohio Wesleyan University
The win also snapped the Blue Streaks' (3-4-3) five-game unbeaten streak.
Sabers scored the first Spartan goal off of a pass from senior forward Leah Levey (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley) in the 14th minute. Levey's pass split two defenders, and Sabers beat Blue Streak senior goalkeeper Nicole Grys for the early advantage.
Just one minute into the second half, the Spartans added to their lead as Sabers hustled to beat a Blue Streak defender to a loose ball in front of the net. The goal came after Levey rifled a shot that was tipped off the crossbar and fell to the foot of a sliding Sabers.
The Spartans continued to pile onto their lead as junior midfielder Makenzie Best (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) scored her first goal of the season in the 72th minute as she sent a rocket into the upper left corner after beating her defender off of the ball.
Freshman forward Jennifer Zajic (Fairfax, Station, Virginia/Robinson Secondary) made the score 4-0 late when when she chipped the goalie from 25 yards out for the first goal of her collegiate career.
With their second shut out in a row, the Spartans haven't conceded a goal in 221:12 of action.
Junior goalkeeper Abbey Smith (Powell, Ohio/Olentagy Liberty) had an uneventful game in net, recording just one save, while Blue Streak Nicole Grys saved four shots.
The Spartans controlled the game from start to finish, leading in shots (23-6) and corners (2-1).
