Box Score DANVILLE, Ky. - The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season by a score of 1-0 at No. 18 nationally-ranked Centre College on the final day of the Centre Showcase at Hillside Field. The match was interrupted by a lengthy lightning delay.
The Spartans (1-1) look to get back in the win column versus Heidelberg University in the 2013 home opener on Friday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Case Field.
Junior goalkeeper Abbey Smith (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) had a solid game between the pipes with six saves. The Spartan defense also turned away eight corner kicks by the hosts.
Sophomore midfielder Kate Dolansky (Brecksville, Ohio/Hathaway Brown), who scored in the season opener last night, and junior forward Caitlyn McGillis (Fraser, Mich./Regina), were at the center of the Spartan offense with five of the team's eight shots.
The Generals scored the only goal at the 37:54 mark of the first half when Becca Hinds hit the back of the net on a shot from the edge of the box.
Both Dolansky and McGillis forced saves from Centre's goalie late in the game, but the Spartans were unable to find the equalizing goal.
Overall, Centre outshot Case, 15-8, and led in corners, 8-0.
The Spartans' next two games are both at home as The College of Wooster follows Heidelberg into Case Field on Tuesday, September 10.
