Box Score ST. LOUIS – The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team fell by a score of 2-0 to No. 2 nationally-ranked Washington University-St. Louis in University Athletic Association action on Friday afternoon at Francis Field.
The Spartans fall to 7-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the UAA heading into their final road match of the season this Sunday, October 20 at 1:30 p.m. (CT) versus the University of Chicago. With the victory, the Bears improve to 12-1-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the UAA.
Washington scored midway through the first half when Katie Chandler pounced on a loose ball in the box and sent a shot past junior goalkeeper Abbey Smith (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) at 26:15. The Bears would double their lead with 15 minutes left to play when Olivia Lillegraven sent Becky Berels' cross into the top corner of the Case goal.
Smith ended the match with a season-high seven saves as the Bears outshot the Spartans 24-10 (10-4 on goal).
Sophomore Midfielder Kate Dolansky (Brecksville, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) led the Spartans with three shots, while junior midfielder Makenzie Best (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) was second on the team with two.
Amy French earned the shutout for Washington with four saves.
