The Spartans, who jumped from No. 17 to No. 13 in the latest NSCAA national poll, concluded a successful season-opening three-game road swing with a 2-0-1 record that included a hard-fought 1-1 tie at then No. 12-ranked Ohio Northern University on Sunday. Offensively, sophomore forward Jessie Sabers, the reigning UAA Offensive Player of the Week, is tied for the UAA lead with three goals and scored a pair in the season opener versus Heidelberg University. Freshman midfielder Kiley Armstrong scored what proved to be the game-winning tally during Wednesday's 1-0 shutout of Denison University. In net, sophomore goalie Cameron Casson has played the first half in all three contests with a save, while freshman Megan Romelfanger has been inserted following halftime and has four saves in 155 minutes of action.
Centre, ranked No. 25 in the latest NSCAA national poll, enters play this afternoon with a 2-0 record. The Colonels edged John Carroll University, 2-1, and blew past Marietta College, 7-0, during their annual Centre Classic this past weekend. Junior midfielder Morgan Collins and senior midfielder Mary-Taylor Kersey both recorded two goals, while freshman midfielder/forward Alex Combs has a goal along with a team-high four assists. Of note, four other Colonels have put a ball into the back of the opposition's net. Between the pipes, the duo of junior Megan Foley and freshman Holly Hilton have each started a contest and been replaced by each other at halftime. Each keeper has a victory, while Foley has three saves.
