Spartans Begin UAA Play Versus NYU as Part of Homecoming Weekend; Watch It Live

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team (5-2-2) looks to keep its winning ways intact when it opens University Athletic Association play versus New York University (6-2) as part of CWRU's Homecoming Weekend tripleheader on Saturday, September 29 at Case Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. The Spartans have won three-straight 1-0 decisions versus the Violets.

The Spartans are No. 8 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Great Lakes regional poll. Case picked up a pair of road wins last week versus Capital University on Saturday, 2-1, and versus local-rival John Carroll University on Monday, 3-0. Sophomore forward Jessie Sabers leads the team and ranks sixth in the UAA with six goals for 12 points, while junior forward Leah Levey has seven points on three goals and an assist. Senior tri-captain and midfielder Deena Levey tallied two assists and a goal at John Carroll and has a goal and a team-high three helpers this season. In net, sophomore Cameron Casson (3-2-1) has started all nine matches with 13 saves and a 1.72 goals against average. Freshman Megan Romelfanger (2-0-1) picked up the victory versus Capital after relieving Casson during the second half. In eight matches, Romelfanger has 13 saves with a 0.24 GAA.

NYU (6-2) enters action on a four-match winning streak including a 10-3 victory versus The College of Staten Island on Tuesday. During the four-match streak, the Violets have tallied a combined 26 goals and allowed just six. Offensively, NYU as a team leads the UAA with 35 goals in eight matches played. Freshman forward Melissa Menta leads the UAA with 20 points on seven goals and an Association-best six assists. Sophomore forward/midfielder Cami Crawford ranks tied for third in the UAA with 17 points (seven goals, three assists), while senior midfielder/forward Serra Tumay has 14 points (five goals, four helpers). Of note, eight additional Violets have found the back of the opposing net this fall. In goal, sophomore keeper Meg Patten (5-2) has started all eight matches with 19 saves, a 1.54 goals against average and a .655 save percentage, while freshman Arianna Strome has logged time in three matches.
