Box Score UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – Senior midfielder Deena Levey (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley) assisted on the first two goals of the night and scored another to lead the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory at local-rival John Carroll University on Monday at Don Shula Stadium.
The Spartans improve to 5-2-2 overall heading into the 2012 University Athletic Association opener versus New York University this Saturday, September 29 at 5:00 p.m. at Case Field. The Blue Streaks see their four-match win streak snapped and fall to 5-4.
After playing to a scoreless first half, sophomore forward Jessie Sabers (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) struck at the 55:01 mark via an assist from Levey. Sabers' sixth goal through just nine matches ranks second in the UAA this season.
Later in the period, the Spartans put the match away as a Levey corner kick was headed into the JCU net by senior defender Maeve Goede (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) in the 69th minute. For Goede, the score was her first of the season and second career.
Levey then added her own score for good measure in the 81st minute.
In net, sophomore Cameron Casson (Allen, Texas/Allen) started and posted a pair of saves in the first half. Freshman Megan Romelfanger (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) played the second half to improve to 2-0-1 as a rookie. Haley McDonald recorded seven saves in the loss for JCU.
For the match, the Spartans outshot JCU, 16-8, and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Saturday's UAA opener with NYU is part of a Homecoming tripleheader at CWRU. The Spartan football team plays Wittenberg at 1:00 p.m., while the Spartan men's soccer team plays NYU at 7:30 p.m.
