Spartan Men Suffer First Loss, 1-0, at John Carroll

Box Score

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team fell to 1-1 for the young season following a 1-0 loss at local-rival John Carroll University on Sunday afternoon at Don Shula Stadium.

The Spartans continue a three-match road swing this Wednesday, September 5 at Muskingum University at 7:30 p.m. in New Concord. John Carroll improves to 1-1.

After the two sides went scoreless for most of the first half, the Blue Streaks got on the board when Ian Coada scored via a Shaq Bridges assist in the 44th minute.

That goal was all the hosts needed as the Spartans' best shot off of the head of freshman forward Chris Cvecko (Erie, Pa./McDowell) was foiled by a fine save by JCU goalkeeper Carl Contrascier in the 77th minute.

In net, senior Ryan Koepka (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) recorded a pair of saves for the Spartans, while Contrascier recorded five for the Streaks.

JCU outshot Case, 12-8, and held a 10-6 advantage in corner kicks.
