Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio – Sophomore forward Jessie Sabers (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) scored a career-best two goals as the No. 17 nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team opened the 2012 season with a 3-0 victory at Heidelberg University on Friday evening at Hidden Valley.
The Spartans (1-0) return to action with a Top-25 showdown at No. 12 Ohio Northern University on Sunday, September 2 at 1:00 p.m. in Ada.
Sabers scored her first goal unassisted in the 33rd minute when she beat a Heidelberg defender and knocked the ball past the Student Prince goalkeeper. The second-year Spartan added her second score via an assist from junior forward Rachel Bourque (Newton, N.H./Central Catholic) at the 63:25 mark, while an own goal in the 72nd minute capped the Spartan scoring.
In net, sophomore Cameron Casson (Allen, Texas/Allen) started and played the first half with one save en route to her first collegiate victory. Freshman Megan Romelfanger (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) made her debut in the second half and faced one shot.
For the match, the Spartans outshot the Student Princes 19-2 and held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Sabers attempted six of the shots, while Bourque attempted four and freshman midfielder Rachel Hammond (Warsaw, Ohio/River View) recorded three.
Following Sunday's match at ONU, the Spartans close a three-game road trip at Denison University at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5.
