SCOUTING THE SPARTANS

After dropping their previous eight contests, the Spartans notched their first UAA victory in convincing fashion Friday evening with a decisive 91-68 win versus Brandeis University (Mass.) in the first of two contests in conjunction with CWRU's seventh annual Throwback Weekend. In the win, senior forward Tom Summers posted a career-best 31 points on 13-of-16 shooting from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 at the charity stripe. Summers also added nine rebounds. For the season, the Spartans have been outscored by a narrow margin of 72.8 ppg to 72.5, but have outrebounded the competition, 37.3 rpg to 34.2. As a team, Case shoots .461 from the field, including .395 from three-point range, and .729 from the free throw line.

CASE WESTERN RESERVE LEADERS

Austin Fowler leads the team in scoring at 15.2 ppg and is third in rebounding at 7.1 rpg. David Thompson is second on the squad in scoring at 12.7 ppg and ranks second on the team and fourth in the UAA at 7.6 rpg. Senior forward Tom Summers is third in scoring at 11.9 ppg, while leading the UAA in rebounding at 7.9 rpg. Freshman forward Dane McLoughlin is the top freshman scorer in the Association averaging 10.4 ppg with a team-high 30 three-pointers. Freshman guard Julien Person averages 7.0 ppg and is second on the squad in assists at 2.7 per game and blocked shots at 1.0 per game. Freshman point guard Jordan Dean checks in at 6.2 ppg and averages a team-best 3.7 assists per game.

MILESTONE WATCH

Senior forward Tom Summers, the UAA's top rebounder at 7.9 rpg, has a shot at two significant milestones by season's end. With 947 career points, Summers is 53 points shy of joining the CWRU 1,000-point club and would need to average just under nine points per game over the final six to reach 1,000. Also with 680 career rebounds, Summers is 73 rebounds away from Carson Oren's (2002-06) record of 753 and would need to average around 11.8 per game to reach the milestone. This season, Summers has five double-doubles and is riding a streak of seven-straight games with double-digit scoring including his career-high 31 on Friday evening.

THROWBACK WEEKEND

As part of CWRU's seventh annual Throwback Weekend, the Spartan men are wearing uniforms commemorating Western Reserve University (Red Cats) on Friday and Case Institute of Technology (Rough Riders) on Sunday. WRU and CIT federated in 1967 to become Case Western Reserve University.

DIAPER DANDIES

Three of Case Western Reserve's top-six scorers are freshmen with forward Dane McLoughlin averaging 10.4 ppg and guards Julien Person and Jordan Dean averaging 7.0 ppg and 6.2 ppg, respectively.
