Box Score CLEVELAND – The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team fell by a score of 6-0 to University Athletic Association foe University of Chicago on a cold and rainy Friday evening at Case Field. Prior to the match, CWRU honored its seven women's soccer senior student-athletes.
The Spartans fall to 7-5-4 overall and 1-3-1 in the UAA heading into their final home match of the season this Sunday, October 28. With the win, the Maroons improve to 11-5 and 3-2 in the UAA.
Chicago struck twice early on as Sara Kwan notched goals at 9:40 and 12:22 of the first half. The first came unassisted, while the second was aided by a pass from Beatrice Hobson.
The Spartans threatened to cut into the lead in the 18th minute with a look at an open net, but a finesse shot by sophomore forward Christine Straka (Prospect Heights, Ill./Saint Viator) hit the Maroon crossbar.
The Maroons added to their lead late in the first half when Naomi Pacalin headed in a goal following a cross from Anna Goddi in the 42nd minute.
The second half produced three more Chicago goals with Hobson scoring the first at 62:20, Goddi the second at 63:37 and Claire Mackevicius the third at 69:52.
For the match, the Maroons outshot the Spartans, 13-12, while Case won the corner kick battle, 4-3.
In goal for Case Western Reserve, freshman Megan Romelfanger (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) played the first 81:25 and recorded one save. Junior Kerry Martenis (Southgate, Mich./Southgate Anderson) came on in relief and picked up one stop.
Chicago's Jacinda Reid totaled six saves in 76:01 of action.
The Spartans wrap up the home schedule on Sunday versus No. 5 nationally-ranked Washington University-St. Louis (Mo.) at 11:00 a.m. The team then wraps up the season next Saturday, November 3 at the University of Rochester (N.Y.) at 5:00 p.m.
