Box Score CLEVELAND, Ohio – Sophomore forward Christine Straka (Prospect Heights, Ill./Saint Viator) scored with just under 10 minutes left in regulation lifting the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory versus Ohio Wesleyan University on Tuesday evening at Case Field.
With the win, the Spartans increase their win streak to four-straight matches and improve to 7-2-2 overall. The team will hit the road and jump back into University Athletic Association play on Saturday, October 6 versus Brandeis University at 11:00 a.m. in Waltham, Massachusetts.
With the loss, Ohio Wesleyan dips to 3-7-1.
The hosts threatened to get on the board and break the deadlock near the midway point of the first half when junior forward/midfielder Leah Levey (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley) laced a shot from 15 yards out, but OWU goalkeeper Hannah Zacharias made a diving stop to her right as the match remained scoreless headed to the break.
In the second stanza, Case turned up its offensive pressure and finally broke through as time winded down. With 9:55 showing on the clock, Straka tapped in her first goal via a double assist from senior forward Alyssa Lauzau (Pickerington, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) and sophomore forward Jessie Sabers (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome).
The Spartan defensive unit held the Battling Bishop offense in check and made Straka's third career goal stand up for the win.
For the match, Case held a decided 22-5 shot advantage and also possessed a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
In net, Spartan freshman Megan Romelfanger (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) improved her record to 4-0-1, logging all 90 minutes with one save, while Zacharias (3-6) made 11 stops for the Battling Bishops.
The shutout was Romelfanger's second and Case's third-straight.
