Spartan Women See Unbeaten Streak End at No. 1 Emory

ATLANTA – The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team saw its five-match unbeaten streak end in a 5-0 loss at No. 1 nationally-ranked Emory University in University Athletic Association action on Friday evening at the Woodruff P.E. Center.

The Spartans (7-3-3, 1-1-1 UAA) drop to fourth place in the conference standings and will try to rebound at No. 24 Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) on Sunday, October 14 at 11:00 a.m. in Pittsburgh. Emory stays atop the UAA at 9-0-3 overall and 2-0-1 in league play.

The Eagles opened the scoring with a Veronica Romero goal at 17:48 of the first half. Katy Kruse then added scores 12 and 24 minutes later as the hosts built a 3-0 halftime lead. The Emory advantage ballooned to five with goals by Clare Mullins at 48:32 and Emily Feldman at 78:07.

Spartan freshman goalkeeper Megan Romelfanger (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead), the reigning UAA Defensive Player of the Week, saw her scoreless streak end at 551:31. The rookie recorded four saves but fell to 4-1-2.

Erica Stein (5-0-3) picked up one stop for the Eagles.

For the match, Emory outshot the Spartans, 19-6, and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
