(9-3 overall, 1-0 UAA) on Friday, January 13 at 8:00 p.m. and the Maroons of the University of Chicago (Ill.) (7-5 overall, 0-1 UAA) on Sunday, January 15 at noon.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
Following an 8-3 mark during the non-conference portion of their schedule, the Spartans dropped a 75-63 decision in the University Athletic Association opener versus Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) last Saturday, January 7, moving Case to 14-11 overall in 25 UAA openers dating back to the 1987-88 season. Freshman point guard Jordan Dean led the way with a game and career-high 21 points versus the Tartans. For the season, the Spartans have outscored their opponents by an average of 72.4 to 68.4 ppg and have out-rebounded the opposition 38.1 to 35.5 rpg. Case shoots .471 from the field, including .401 from three-point range, and .694 from the foul line.
CASE WESTERN RESERVE LEADERS
Austin Fowler leads the team in scoring at 14.4 ppg and is third in rebounding at 6.1 rpg. David Thompson is second on the squad in scoring at 13.7 ppg and ranks second on the team and fourth in the UAA at 8.3 rpg. Senior forward Tom Summers is fourth in scoring at 9.5 ppg, while leading the team and ranking third in the UAA at 8.4 rpg. Freshman forward Dane McLoughlin is tied for the lead in the Association among freshmen averaging 11.9 ppg with a team-high 22 three-pointers, and ranks second in the UAA with his .602 field-goal percentage. Also of note, freshman guard Julien Person averages 6.4 ppg, is tied for the team lead with 42 assists, and ranks second on the squad with 14 blocked shots.
CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARDS
Senior forward Tom Summers enters this weekend's action having recorded at least eight rebounds in five-straight contests, including three double-digit games and a season-high 14-board contest against Kenyon College back on December 9. Over his four-year career, he has accumulated 630 rebounds, ranking him third all-time in the Spartan record books.
DIAPER DANDIES
Case has seen significant contribution from its freshman class thus far in 2011-12. Forward Dane McLoughlin is third on the team in scoring at 11.9 ppg. Guard Julien Person averages 6.4 ppg, point guard Jordan Dean averages 5.8 ppg, guard Ken Gibbons averages 3.8 ppg and guard Joe Mims checks in at 2.8 ppg.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Heading into Friday's night action against the Spartans, the Bears, who were among others receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com national poll, sported a 9-3 overall mark as winners of seven of their last eight including a pair of victories versus nationally-ranked opponents. Playing at home last weekend, Washington defeated Chicago by a score of 79-72 on Saturday. Senior guard/forward Dylan Richter scored 20 points and sophomore guard Tim Cooney tied a career-high with 19 points. Sophomore forward Chris Klimek also added 13 points and seven boards. For the season, the Bears outscore their opponents by an average of 73.6 to 67.5 ppg, and have out-rebounded the opposition 38.6 to 30.7 rpg for a UAA-best 7.9 rebounding margin. Washington shoots .452 from the field, including .336 from three-point range, and .689 from the foul line.
WASHINGTON LEADERS
Senior guard/forward Dylan Ritcher, the reigning UAA Athlete of the Week, ranks sixth in the UAA in scoring with 16.8 ppg, is tied for third in the league in three-point field goals made per contest (2.5 3FGM) and fourth in steals (1.3 spg). Sophomore forward Chris Klimek averages 9.8 ppg and 5.0 rpg, while senior forward Alex Toth checks in at 8.6 ppg and 5.7 rpg.
CWRU VERSUS WASHINGTON SERIES
The Spartans and Bears have met 38 times on the hardwood, with Washington holding a 34-4 lead in the all-time series. The Bears have won 13 straight in the series dating back to a 76-74 Case road victory on January 14, 2005.
CWRU VERSUS WASHINGTON LAST MEETING
The Bears defeated the Spartans, 80-71, inside Horsburgh Gymnasium on February 6, 2011. Austin Fowler paced the Spartans with 23 points, while Reid Anderson and Tim Chung added 15 and 14, respectively. Washington had three players in double-digits, including Caleb Knepper (19 points), Dylan Ritcher (16) and Spencer Gay (14).
SCOUTING THE MAROONS
The Maroons saw a two-game winning streak end last Saturday versus Washington University-St. Louis, 79-72, in the teams' UAA opener inside the WU Fieldhouse. Senior forward Steve Stefanou and senior guard Matt Johnson combined to score 40 points in the setback versus the Bears. Stefanou added 10 rebounds for the Maroons as the visitors held a 39-31 rebounding advantange in defeat. For the season, the Maroons have outscored their opponents by a narrow average of 74.4 to 73.2 ppg, and have out-rebounded the opposition 34.7 to 30.4 rpg. Chicago shoots .440 from the field, including .370 from three-point range, and .718 from the foul line.
CHICAGO LEADERS
Senior guard Matt Johnson is fifth in the UAA in scoring at 17.5 ppg and fourth in free-throw percentage at .877 mark on 50-of-57 shooting. Senior forward Steve Stefanou is second on the team in scoring at 9.7 ppg and third in rebounding at 3.9 rpg. Sophomore forward Sam Gage averages 8.0 ppg and is second on the team at 4.1 rpg, while senior guard Michael Sustarsic checks in at 7.0 ppg with a team-best 34 assists.
CWRU VERSUS CHICAGO SERIES
The Spartans and Maroons have met 36 times on the hardwood, with Chicago holding a 28-8 lead in the all-time series. The two squads split a pair of meetings last winter as the Maroons edged out an overtime affair by a 71-66 count in Chicago on January 28, and the Spartans rebounded at home besting the Maroons just one week later on February 4, 88-75.
CWRU VERSUS CHICAGO LAST MEETING
The Spartans defeated the Maroons, 88-75, as part of the Spartans annual Throwback Weekend Festivities on February 4. Austin Fowler scored a career-high 25 points for the Spartans, while Alex Hildebrandt tallied a career-best 17 points off the Spartan bench. UC's Matt Johnson led all scorers in the game with 26 points including six three-point field goals. Tom Williams was also in double-figures with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
