Box Score DELAWARE, Ohio – Senior forward Ana Arruda (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) scored the game-tying goal with 19:28 remaining in regulation as the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team played to a 2-2 double-overtime tie with Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday night at Selby Field.
The Spartans (6-1-2 overall) open University Athletic Association play this Saturday, October 1, at New York University. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, New York.
OWU got on the board first in the 23rd minute when Makinzie Krebsbach headed in a shot following a centering pass from Jessie Huschart. The Spartans evened the score just over six minutes later as freshman midfielder Christine Straka (Prospect Heights, Ill./Saint Viator) headed in a corner kick from freshman Caitlyn McGillis (Fraser, Mich./Regina) that was directed by Arruda. Neither team found the back of net for the remainder of the half despite Case holding an 18-7 advantage in shots.
The Battling Bishops broke the tie in the 50th minute when Emily Knapp scored on a rebound following a shot by Huschart. Undaunted, the Spartans tied the game up at 70:32 when Arruda bounced a header off of the left post with an assist by freshman defender Jessica Sabers (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome).
The Spartans then outshot the Bishops 7-5 in two overtime periods, but neither side would score.
In net, senior captain Anna Kennedy (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) recorded five saves. Hannah Zacharias totaled 14 for the Bishops.
For the game, the Spartans outshot OWU 44-17, while the Bishops held the advantage in corner kicks, 5-4.
