Box Score CLEVELAND, Ohio– Three scored in double-figures as the Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team closed out the 2010-11 season with a 65-40 victory versus Carnegie Mellon University (PA) on Saturday, February 26 at Horsburgh Gymnasium. Prior to the game, CWRU honored its lone women's hoops senior, Caitlin Henry (Fairfax, VA/Robinson).
The Spartans finish the season at 13-12 overall and 7-7 in the University Athletic Association. The winning season is Case's third in head coach Jennifer Reimer's four-year tenure and the non-losing UAA slate is the first for the program since 2001-02. Carnegie Mellon ends its season at 2-23 overall and 0-14 UAA.
Junior forward Erin Hollinger (Chardon, OH/Chardon) totaled 14 points and six rebounds, while sophomore guard Evy Iacono (Cincinnati, OH/Mount Notre Dame) contributed 14 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Henry scored nine points to finish her career with 1,020 – good for ninth place in school history. Sophomore forward Emily Mueller (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) grabbed a game and career-high 11 rebounds.
Three players scored eight for CMU, including Emily Peel, who also chipped in four boards.
The Spartans opened the game on an 11-4 run ending with a Henry layup at 14:59. The lead grew to 12 when junior forward Chelsea Peck (Mt. Lebanon, PA/Oakland Catholic) hit a layup to make the score 26-14 with 1:41 left in the period. After the two teams exchanged points, Hollinger hit a pair of free throws with eight seconds left to make the score 30-17.
In the second half, Case's lead grew to 19 when Hollinger hit a fast-break bucket to cap a 9-0 run and make the score 47-28 at 10:03. The Spartan advantage grew to a game-high 27, at 65-38, following two free throws by freshman forward Kathryn Huber (Tyler, TX/Bishop T.K. Gorman).
