Spartan Men Fall to Emory, 83-64, on Seniors' Night

Box Score

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Sophomore forward Austin Fowler (Farmington Hills, MI/Brother Rice) matched a career-high with 25 points and senior wing Reid Anderson (Avon Lake, OH/St. Edward) reached the 1,000-point mark for his career, but the Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team lost to Emory University (GA), 83-64, on Friday, February 18 at Horsburgh Gymnasium. Prior to the game, CWRU honored its five men's basketball senior student-athletes.

The Spartans have now dropped four in a row and sit at 8-15 overall and 4-8 in the University Athletic Association. Emory wins its sixth straight, improving to 19-4 overall and 10-2 in the UAA.

Fowler's game-high 25 points were accompanied by seven rebounds. Anderson scored six and reached 1,000 career points with a free throw at 6:17 of the second half. In addition, freshman point guard Mike Byrne (Newton, PA/Holy Ghost) scored a career-high 13 points.

Emory had four players in double-figures, including Jake Davis with 22 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Case led for the opening minute as senior center Eric Duerr (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) hit a layup to make the score 4-0 at the 19:01 mark. Emory scored the next 14 in a row and led 14-4 when Davis hit a layup at 13:14. The Spartans were unable to get closer than nine the rest of the period as the Eagles went into the break with a 41-30 advantage.

In the second half, the Spartans opened with three in a row and trailed 41-33 following a Fowler three-point play with 19:29 left in the contest. Unfortunately, eight points was as close as Case could get. Emory quickly re-built its lead to double-figures and cruised to the 19-point victory.

Anderson and Duerr were two of the five seniors honored prior to tip-off along with Ryan Bokan (Boise, ID/Bishop Kelly), Colin Mulholland (Jacksonville, FL/Bishop Kenny) and Alex Hildebrandt (Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary).

The Spartans are back in action this Sunday, February 20 versus nationally-ranked (#22) University of Rochester (NY) at 12:00 p.m.
