Spartans Open Home Stand on Right Foot with 84-67 Win versus Kenyon

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Junior forward Austin Fowler (Farmington Hills, Mich./Birmingham Brother Rice) scored a game-high 22 points to pace four in double-figures as the Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team stretched its win streak to five with an 84-67 victory versus Kenyon College on Friday evening at Horsburgh Gymnasium.

The Spartans (6-2 overall) continue their season-long seven-game home stand on Monday, December 12 versus Kalamazoo College (Mich.) at 7:30 p.m. Kenyon drops to 2-6 overall.

In addition to Fowler, sophomore center David Thompson (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) and senior forward Tom Summers (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) each recorded double-doubles. Thompson's third in four games came on 19 points and 10 rebounds. Summers totaled 13 points and 14 boards. Freshman forward Dane McLoughlin (Westerville, Ohio/St. Charles Preparatory) also scored in double-figures with 12.

A 10-0 run early in the first half put the Spartans ahead 12-6 as Thompson grabbed a rebound and finished with a dunk at the 13:48 mark. Kenyon outscored Case 15-8 over the next 5:02 and moved back ahead 21-20 when Ikenna Nwadibia hit a layup at 8:46. The Spartans responded with a 9-2 run of their own and led 29-23 when Summers knocked down a jumper with 5:21 left in the half.

The Lords once again answered with an 11-4 run to take a 34-33 lead as Brian Lebowitz hit a jumper with 2:38 remaining. The game then went back-and-forth as the Spartans got a three-pointer by McLoughlin at the buzzer to lead 40-38 at halftime.

In the second half, the Spartans opened with an 11-6 run and led by seven when freshman guard Julien Person (Houston, Texas/Second Baptist) hit a layup with 15:09 left to play. The advantage grew to 13, at 61-48, when Fowler nailed a triple with 11:54 remaining. The Spartans maintained control the rest of the way despite Kenyon cutting the lead to five on two occasions in the final four minutes.

Kenyon had three in double-figures led by Lebowitz's 19.
