LAST TIME OUT
The Spartans fell in the championship game of the annual Stephanie Tubbs Jones Memorial Tournament on Saturday, November 19, by a score of 76-59 versus North Coast Athletic Conference foe DePauw University. Junior forward Austin Fowler, the Spartans' all-tournament selection, led three players in double-figures with a team-high 16 points to go along with five rebounds. Senior forward Tom Summers added 10 points and nine boards, while sophomore center David Thompson recorded 10 points and five rebounds.
AUSTIN POWERS THE SPARTANS
Through three games in 2011-12, junior forward Austin Fowler is averaging 20.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Since transferring to CWRU in 2010, the first-team All-UAA and NABC All-District selection has averaged 17.2 points and 6.9 rebounds in 28 games.
EARLY IMPACT
The Spartans have seen significant contributions from a number of freshmen thus far in 2011-12i including forward Dane McLoughlin, who is second on the team in scoring at 12.7 points per game with a team-high six three-pointers. Guard Ken Gibbons leads the team with 13 assists in just 49 minutes played and point guard Jordan Dean has started all three games.
DOUBLING UP
Senior forward and captain Tom Summers enters tonight's game with 16 career double-doubles. In 74 career games, Summers has averaged 10.0 points and 7.4 rebounds. A 2009-10 All-UAA pick, Summers ranks fifth all-time in school history with 550 rebounds and enters tonight's game with 738 points.
LAST MEETING
Denison connected on 12 three-pointers as a team and erased a late deficit to defeat Case Western Reserve University, 78-70, on November 23, 2010 at Livingston Gymnasium. For the Spartans, Reid Anderson finished with a team-high 17 points. Eric Duerr finished with 16 points and six rebounds, while Tom Summers posted a near double-double with eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Denison was led by Dimonde Hale with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Brett Tiberi finished with 17 markers and Larry Farmer added 15 points, five rebounds and four assists.
THE SERIES
Since the Case and Western Reserve federation in 1967, the Spartans and Big Red have met 40 times on the hardwood, with Case Western Reserve holding a slim 21-19 advantage in the all-time series. The first meeting between the two schools came during the 1973-74 season.

TOURNAMENT TIME
The Spartans will host the second of their two tournaments this season with the annual Bill Sudeck Holiday Tournament on Thursday and Friday, December 29-30. The tournament is named in honor of the late Bill Sudeck, who served the University for 46 years as head coach of the basketball, cross country, and track & field teams. Sudeck won 329 games on the hardwood and was inducted into the Spartan Club Hall of Fame in 1997.
THROWBACK WEEKEND
The Case Western Reserve University Athletic Department will be taking a step back in time during the weekend of February 3-5 when it hosts the seventh annual Throwback Weekend at Horsburgh Gymnasium. Both the Spartan men's and women's basketball teams will be wearing uniforms commemorating Western Reserve University (Red Cats), Case Institute of Technology (Rough Riders), and Mather College. WRU and CIT federated in 1967 to become Case Western Reserve University.
