Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A goal in the 26th minute led the No. 17 nationally-ranked Washington University-St. Louis women's soccer team past No. 18 Case Western Reserve University, 1-0, in a Top-25 showdown on Sunday afternoon at Francis Field.
With the setback, the Spartans see a three-match winning streak ended and fall to 12-3-2 overall and 4-2 in the University Athletic Association. Washington University-St. Louis moves to 14-4 overall and 4-2 in the UAA.
Washington University St. Louis' Lillie Toaspern broke the scoreless tie tallying the lone score at the 25:53 mark with a shot off a pair of assists from Emma Brown and Jen Reed.
For the match, Case held a slight 10-9 advantage in shots but the hosts possessed a decided 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
Junior midfielder Devyn Lee (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College) recorded a team-high three shots, including two on goal, for the Spartans.
In goal, senior captain Anna Kennedy (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) recorded three saves for Case. Washington University-St. Louis' Clara Jaques recorded five saves for the Bears.
Case will conclude the regular-season portion of its schedule at home on Saturday, November 5, when it takes on UAA opponent the University of Rochester (N.Y.) (8-7 overall, 1-3-2 UAA) with kickoff at Case Field set for 7:30 p.m. Prior to the match, the Spartans women's soccer team will honor its seven senior student-athletes.
