Spartan Women's Soccer Picks Up First Win at Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team improved to 1-1 for the season with a 2-0 victory at Kenyon College on day one (Saturday, September 4) of Labor Day weekend tournament action at Mavec Field. The Spartans play at Denison University tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in Granville.

The Spartans opened the scoring in the 19th minute when sophomore midfielder Devyn Lee (Pennsylvania, PA/State College) scored via a well-placed pass from sophomore midfielder Kendra Simmons (Medina/Walsh Jesuit). Case's defense held Kenyon to just seven shots and Simmons added an insurance goal on a floater from 20 yards out in the 82nd minute.

In goal, Chelsea Lasky (Fairview, PA/Fairview) recorded four saves en route to her first career shutout. Kenyon's Kat Powers made eight stops in the losing effort.

Following tomorrow's tournament finale at Denison, the Spartans return to action on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 11-12, at the John Carroll University Invitational. Case opens versus Oberlin College at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Following tournament play this weekend, the Spartans host local-rival John Carroll University in their 2010 home-opener on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Case Field.
