Spartans Blank Ohio Wesleyan, 3-0

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team improved to 6-2-1 for the season with a 3-0 home victory versus Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday, September 29 at Case Field.

The Spartans are now a perfect 3-0 at home and are set to open University Athletic Association play this Saturday at Brandeis University (MA) at 11:00 a.m. in Boston, Massachusetts. With its loss, OWU falls to 2-5-2 overall.

Case got on the board in the 14th minute when freshman forward Leah Levey (Columbus, OH/Bexley) scored her third goal of the season on a rebound from junior forward Rebecca Vaughan (Parma, OH/Normandy).

The Spartans added to their lead in the 24th minute when freshman midfielder Rachel Bourque (Newton, NH) found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal following a cross from sophomore midfielder Eric Sackett (Independence, OH/Walsh Jesuit).

The Spartan lead grew to three in the 64th minute when sophomore midfielder Kendra Simmons (Medina, OH/Walsh Jesuit) scored her third goal of the year following a beautiful cross from Sackett (pictured).

In goal, junior Anna Kennedy (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) posted two saves to record her second shutout of the year and improve 3-1. OWU's Margot Klepetko made five stops for the Bishops.

For the game, Case outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 12-4, and led in corner kicks, 6-3.

Following Saturday's match at Brandeis, the Spartans return home to host Hiram College on Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Case Field.
