Box Score UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team defeated Grove City College (PA), 2-1, on the second and final day (Saturday, September 11) of the 2010 John Carroll University Classic. The Spartans finished the weekend with two wins following yesterday's 4-0 victory versus Oberlin College.
Case improves to 3-1-1 overall and returns home to host John Carroll on Wednesday, September 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Case Field in Cleveland. With the loss, Grove City drops to 2-2 overall.
The Spartans picked up right where they left off from Friday's effort and got on the board early in the eighth minute when junior midfielder Rebecca Vaughan (Parma/Normandy)scored via an assist from sophomore midfielder Erica Sackett (Independence).
Senior midfielder Frances Hogan (Westerville, OH/Columbus Academy) added to the lead with her second goal of the weekend following a pass from freshman forward Paige Strang (Anthem, AZ) in the 37th minute.
Grove City cut into the lead when Hannah Yang scored in the 60th minute but the Spartans were able to hold the Wolverines off to secure the 2-1 win.
In goal, junior Anna Kennedy (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) started and recorded one save to earn her first win of the season (1-1 overall). Sophomore Chelsea Lasky (Fairview, PA/Villa Maria Academy) played the second half and made three stops but was scored on for the first time in 304 minutes and 54 seconds this season.
For the game, Grove City outshot the Spartans 13-10 and held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
