Spartans Get Offensive in 4-0 Win versus Oberlin

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team scored a season-high four goals in a shutout victory versus Oberlin College on the opening day (Friday, September 10) of the John Carroll University Invitational at Shula Stadium. The Spartans close out the weekend on Saturday versus Grove City College (PA) at 12:00 p.m.

With the win, Case improves to 2-1-1 overall while Oberlin drops to 1-4.

The Spartans scored early in the eighth minute when freshman forward Leah Levey (Columbus, OH/Bexley) found the back of the net for her first career collegiate goal.

After playing scoreless for the remainder of the first half, Case added to its lead in the 55th minute when sophomore forward Ashley Debeljak (Beachwood, OH/Beachwood) scored the first goal of her young career.

The Spartans then blew the game open when junior defender Rebecca Vaughan (Parma/Normandy) scored via an assist from sophomore midfielder Devyn Lee (Pennsylvania Furnace, PA/State College) at 64:52 and senior midfielder Frances Hogan (Westerville, OH/Columbus Academy) scored at 67:10 following an assist from Vaughan.

In goal, sophomore Chelsea Lasky (Fairview, PA) started and played the first half with one save to improve to 2-0-1. Junior Anna Kennedy (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) played the second half and also recorded a save.

For the game, Case outshot Oberlin, 11-5, and held an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Following tomorrow's match versus Grove City, the Spartans return home to host John Carroll on Wednesday, September 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Case Field in Cleveland.
