Box Score CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team opened its 2010 season with a 2-0 victory versus visiting Hiram College on Wednesday evening, September 1, at Case Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Spartans, now 1-0 for the young season, are back in action this Saturday, Sept. 4 with a 2:00 p.m. home match versus Earlham College (IN).
Hiram threatened early in the first half but Spartan junior goalkeeper Ben Yabrow (Marietta, GA/George Walton Comprehensive) made a fine diving stop on a break-a-way shot with 33:50 left to play in the period.
Case then scored its first goal of the season when senior midfielder Jordan Fox (Bexley, OH/Bexley) knocked in a header following a pass from sophomore midfielder Eric Erb (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington) at the 14:59 mark.
The Spartans added an insurance goal with just over 10 minutes remaining in the game when junior midfielder Vinny Bell (Parma Heights, OH/Valley Forge) scored off of a rebound from Hiram goalie Joe Tatum.
In goal, Yabrow recorded four saves. Tatum made one stop in net for the Terriers.
For the game, the Spartans outshot Hiram, 10-8, and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Following Saturday's game, the Spartans play three straight on the road including a Sept. 7 contest at Muskingum University at 5:00 p.m. in New Concord, Ohio.
