Case Squeaks Past NYU, 1-0, to Earn First UAA Win

Box Score

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Sophomore Erica Sackett (Independence, OH/Newman Catholic) scored her first goal of the year in the 60th minute as the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team survived New York University, 1-0, on Saturday, October 9 at Case Field for its first University Athletic Association victory of the season.

Case improves to a perfect 5-0 at home, 8-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the UAA with their sixth shutout win. The Violets dropped to 5-6-2 (1-1 UAA) with the setback.

After a scoreless first-half, Case finally broke through at the 60-minute mark when Sackett found the ball over the middle and lofted a shot over Violet goalkeeper Rachael Ross.

Case junior goalkeeper Anna Kennedy (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) made two spectacular saves in the second half to help preserve her fourth shutout of the season. Kennedy's six saves also helped her to improve her season record to 5-1 overall. Ross corralled four shots for the Violets.

NYU outshot Case 10-7 and fired off seven corners to the Spartans' five, but were ultimately unable to find the back of the net.

Next up for Case will be another UAA home tilt with the Spartans squaring off against Washington University (Mo.) on Friday, October 15 at 5:00 p.m.
